Here's the Meme That Has Rick Perry Apologizing

"I don't always drive drunk..."

Texas Gov. Rick Perry's Twitter account sent out a meme Sunday night, then deleted it and issued an apology.

The butt of the joke: the Texas district attorney at the center of Perry's felony indictment — an indictment that even the mainstream media and high-profile liberals have called "sketchy" and "outrageously unfair."

Here's the meme:

Pictured in the meme is Travis County Democratic District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg.

After Lehmberg was arrested and pleaded guilty to drunk driving in April 2013, Perry and other Republicans pressured her to resign — but she stayed in office.

Perry threatened to veto $7.5 million in funding for the public integrity unit that Lehmburg ran, and with that threat, the indictment alleges, Perry criminally abused his power as governor.

As Twitchy noted, a few people responded to the Lehmberg meme with outrage.

Others took the joke in stride.

The Houston Chronicle noted that the meme mischaracterized the situation, as Lehmberg did not herself indict Perry.
