Singer Botches National Anthem Before the World Series...and Now He's Apologizing

A case of "nerves" hit, and he botched the national anthem.

Aaron Lewis, frontman for the rock band Staind and solo country singer, made a pretty big mistake before Game 5 of the World Series in San Francisco Sunday night.

He got up to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner," but he flubbed a line, replacing, "at the twilight's last gleaming" with lyrics that come later in the song, "were so gallantly streaming."

Lewis released a statement on Sunday night apologizing for his mistake:

All I can say is I'm sorry and ask for the Nation's forgiveness. My nerves got the best of me and I am completely torn up about what happened. America is the greatest country in the world. The Star-Spangled Banner means so much to so many, including myself. I hope everyone can understand the intensity of the situation and my true intent of this performance. I hope that the Nation, Major League Baseball and the many fans of our national pastime can forgive me.

While Sunday's mistake, which was gaining viral steam Monday morning, might impact the public's perception of Lewis, readers of TheBlaze might remember the singer for a very different story from earlier this year, when he stopped a show and launched an expletive-riddled tirade to stop concert-goers from "molesting" a teenage girl in a crowd.
