UPDATE: The slain officer was named as Charles "Charlie K" Kondek by the Tarpon Springs Police Department Sunday morning.
He was reportedly responding to a service call just before he was fatally shot.
The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Marco Antonio Parilla Jr., a transient man who is facing a first-degree charge for Kondek's killing, Bay News 9 reported.

A police officer in Tarpon Springs, Florida, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Sunday.
The shooting reportedly occurred around 3 a.m. in the community 30 miles away from Tampa.

Both the suspect and the officer are male, Tampa's Bay News 9 reported.
As details of the shooting emerged, many fellow law enforcement and first responder groups showed support for the fallen officer.
