We Are Sending the Wrong Message': Allen West's Harsh Foreign Policy Analysis

Glenn Beck on Thursday interviewed retired Lt. Colonel Allen West for a full hour on his radio program, and asked the former Florida representative about everything from the Islamic State to how to win over black voters.

"There is a complete disconnect," West said of the strategy to defeat the Islamic State. "How do we defeat them diplomatically? How do we isolate them economically? How do we ... leverage information systems to defeat them ideologically? We can't do that because we have a president that won't even say Islamic terrorism. How will you defeat the enemy when you don't recognize the ideology driving them?"

West, recently named the CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis, said he would not support President Barack Obama's resolution authorizing additional military force against the Islamic State because "it does not have any clarity."

"Can we defeat them without ground troops?" Beck asked. "[Though] I wouldn't send any ground troops or anybody in until we have moral clarity, because all we're doing is throwing bodies into something."

"The only time in the history of United States military we defeated someone with air power [was] Hiroshima, Nagasaki," West responded. "Otherwise you have to have people up close to destroy the enemy, if that's the task that you want to achieve, to destroy them."

West said America is on the "wrong side" in Egypt, and questioned the Obama administration's treatment of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"Why would you want to work against your ally, and the best leader that you have on your side?" he asked. "No one is going to join a coalition of the United States of America when the United States of America is not leading. ... Not only are we on the wrong side, we are sending the wrong message to our allies."

West referenced the VA secretary who asked an Iraq war veteran "what have you done?" and added: "We have to be careful about the types of individuals that are up there with this big government, bureaucratic, nanny state, top-down-driven philosophy. We have to find leadership in this country that restores the preeminence of individual rights, but understands how you have to defeat these enemies and protect our country and restore economic growth."
