‘Get Over It! Get Over It!’: GOP Rep. Hits Back at CNN Host Wolf Blitzer Over Netanyahu Invite
March 02, 2015
"We're a co-equal branch of government, Wolf."
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) hit back at CNN host Wolf Blitzer during an interview Monday afternoon, insisting that the U.S.-Israeli relationship had not been hindered by Speaker John Boehner inviting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress Tuesday.
"Don't you think the speaker should have at least had the courtesy to tell the White House what he was planning on doing?" Blitzer asked the GOP rep.
"Well, I think he did do that," Chaffetz responded.
"Only after the invitation was delivered," Blitzer interjected.
"We're talking about semantics" Chaffetz responded, adding, "We're a co-equal branch of government, Wolf."
That still didn't satisfy Blitzer.
"But as a matter of courtesy, why wouldn't the speaker of the House at least tell the president—" the CNN host said before being interrupted.
"Get over it! Get over it!" Chaffetz said. "He's going to come here and speak to a joint session of Congress."
In the remainder of the short interview, the Utah rep. also maintained that he did not believe the relationship between the U.S. and Israel had been damaged by Netanyahu's speech.
