Here's How Pat Robertson Responded When Asked Whether a Woman and Her Husband Should Attend Their Child's Gay Wedding Ceremony
March 06, 2015
"I think you don't agree with the idea of homosexual marriage."
Controversial Christian TV host Pat Robertson responded to a question from a viewer on the "700 Club" this week regarding whether she and her husband should participate in their child's same-sex wedding ceremony, with the evangelist responding that he "wouldn't go."
"My spouse and I are not in agreement as to whether or not we should attend the gay marriage of our child," a woman name Sheri wrote into the show, explaining that one spouse feels that it's important to support the child, while the other believes that attending goes against God's plan and sends a mixed message about homosexuality.
Robertson, who said that it would be a bad idea to appear disunited by having one spouse attend and the other stay home, said that he wouldn't go to the wedding, though he stressed the importance of expressing love for the child.
"I think you don't agree with the idea of homosexual marriage … you don't agree with it. You've got to stand there and be a witness to it, and by your attendance at the ceremony you are agreeing," Robertson responded. "I just wouldn't go."
He added, "I would tell your child, 'I love you, but I cannot condone this — we always love you, but I don't condone this activity.'"
Watch the evangelist address the matter below:
Robertson has spoken out on homosexuality many times in the past, noting last year, for instance, that he doesn't believe Jesus would have baked a wedding cake for a gay couple, though liberals have praised him in the past for comments that were seemingly friendly toward transgender individuals.
