Texans Respond in ‘AMAZING’ Way After Animal Center Issues Plea for Help Following Recent Floods

"We are so humbled by the outpouring of support..."

An animal shelter in Austin, Texas, that was significantly impacted by recent devastating floods turned to Facebook Tuesday to thank residents for responding in an "AMAZING" way after the center put out a call for help.

Earlier this week, the Austin Animal Center alerted the public that they were "WAY over capacity."

"Due to flooding, many animals have become lost and good samaritans are bringing them to the Austin Animal Center," the shelter said on Facebook. "We are DESPERATE to get animals out of the center!"

Austin Pets Alive! posted photos showing the damage recent storms had caused to a local center.

"This is why we need your help," the organization wrote.

Texans immediately responded.

Photos shared by the Austin Animal Center Tuesday show droves of individuals standing in line to take home displaced pets.

"Austin, you are AMAZING!" the shelter wrote on Facebook. "Thank you! Everyone really came together today to make sure the homeless/displaced pets of Austin were taken care of!"

"Thank you as well to everyone who came out and adopted, reclaimed and picked up foster pets today. We will keep in touch with more updates and photos tomorrow. Thank you so much!" the shelter added.

In a follow-up post on Wednesday, the Austin Animal Center said, "We are so humbled by the outpouring of support we have received over the last few days. A huge THANK YOU goes out to everyone who has donated, adopted, fostered, volunteered, and came together to care for the families and pets affected by the recent storms."

Severe flooding in Texas has claimed several lives and caused significant damage in the past week.
