UFC Champion Ronda Rousey 'Shuts Down' Reporter When Asked About Gender Pay Gap

"I’m the highest paid fighter not because..."

UFC champion Ronda Rousey was asked by a reporter Sunday about her thoughts on the gender pay gap in sports — and the martial arts star did not hesitate to address the issue head-on.

Rousey was in Australia promoting her upcoming fight with 19-time boxing world champion Holly Holm when she was asked the question, according to Submission Radio.

“We’ve got quite a large pay dispute happening with our Australian women’s soccer team at the moment. Is it frustrating for you as someone who’s so prominent in your sport…that that sort of thing is still going on?” the reporter asked as audible boos could be heard in the audience.

Rousey did not mince her words when she replied.

“I think that how much you get paid should have something to do with how much you bring in," she said.

Rousey continued, "I’m the highest paid fighter not because Dana and Lorenzo wanted to do something nice for the ladies. They do it because I bring in the highest numbers. They do it because I make them the most money. And I think the money that they make should be proportionate to the money they bring in.”
