Famous Author Reveals Biblical Prophecies That Pushed Him Over the 'Tipping Point from Skeptic to Believer

Author David Limbaugh recently said during an appearance on The Church Boys podcast that messianic prophecies in the Old Testament that he believes were later fulfilled in the New Testament collectively brought him "over the tipping point from skeptic to believer."

It was these specific details about Jesus that Limbaugh, author of a new book titled, "The Emmaus Code," found so compelling that he eventually jumped headfirst into the Christian faith, believing that what was prophesied in the Old Testament eventually came to pass.

"One thing that blew me away and got me over the tipping point from skeptic to believer was the amazing messianic prophecies that were fulfilled in such specificity," he said. "Micah 5:2 — the prophet Micah in the Old Testament predicted the actual city of Jesus' Birth, Bethlehem."

He also went on to cite Isaiah 53 and Psalms 22 as well, explaining his belief that reading the verses together would lead people to be "blown away with the detail" held within.

"Christ's life, death and resurrection is revealed, is predicted," he said, going on to cite specific prophesies. "No bones will be broken, he'll be falsely accused, he will stand silent in the face of his accusers, he will be ridiculed and scorned and mocked, his robe ... they'll gamble for his robe and his clothes. He'll be crucified along with the sinners, the transgressors."

Limbaugh said that all of these details are foreshadowed in the Old Testament — something that he has always found consistently compelling since becoming a Christian.

He's hoping that "The Emmaus Code" — a title that comes from a story told in Luke 24 in the Bible — will help show readers the foundational importance of the Old Testament, which he described as "part one of a two-act play."

"The thing I really want to do ... is to rekindle an interest in the Old Testament with readers who might be intimidated by it or put off by it, thinking it's not as much a part of the Bible as the New Testament, which it clearly is," Limbaugh said. "Get them to read it and get a better handle on it ... and then go back and read the Bible itself after you have these ideas explained to you."

When asked why some Christians might tend to downplay or shy away from the Old Testament, he noted that, on the surface, there are arcane names, dates, places, genealogies and historical narratives that can be hard to wrap one's mind around. But he believes that the Old Testament is just as important as the New Testament, and devotes two chapters in his book to helping recap the history within.

"I want to help facilitate other peoples' learning and understanding of the Old Testament," Limbaugh told The Church Boys. "I go through not just the Old Testament history, but I show how foundationally important [it] is, then I show all the themes and prefigurings, foreshadowings of Christ in general and discuss those as each of the categories."

He continued, "Then I move on to the actual books of the Bible and give an overview of each of those before turning to the Christ-centeredness and show how ... Christ is present in each and every one of those Old Testament books."

Jesus' story is one that is woven deep into the entire biblical narrative, Limbaugh argues, noting that he believes God's redemptive plan can be seen as far back as Genesis. Read more about "The Emmaus Code" here.
