Cardinals Linebacker’s Drive-Ending, Game-Winning Sack Earns Him a Cool $200k Bonus

Thursday night's NFL game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Minnesota Vikings looked to be headed into overtime. With the Cardinals leading 23-20, the Vikings drove the ball into Cardinals territory with under a minute to play in the game. In fact, Minnesota was on the 31-yard line — within field goal range — but wanted to try one more play, possibly going for a game-winning touchdown pass.

That coaching decision turned out to be a very bad one for Minnesota.

Cardinals veteran linebacker Dwight Freeney's rushed from his outside linebacker post, using a spin move to get around the offensive lineman. Freeney managed to strip the ball from Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. The Cardinals recovered the football, effectively ending the game and giving Arizona a spot in the post season playoffs.

Freeney's move was also a profitable one. Thanks to a clause in his contract, that sack of the quarterback earned Dwight Freeney a cool $200,000 bonus.

Watch Freeney's very profitable play.
