January 28, 2016
It's fantastic, made of plastic.
The world's most iconic doll is undergoing a major change.
American toy manufacturing company Mattel recently announced its release of three new Barbie body types: curvy, petite and tall.

In addition to the new body shapes, Barbie now comes in seven different skin tones. The stated goal behind the new project is to acknowledge that women come in all different shapes, sizes and colors, and to teach girls from a young age that those differences are something to celebrate.
Many women took to Twitter to express their appreciation and welcome the new change:
im so happy about this! thank you for introducing dolls that don't give young girls unrealistic ideas of beauty https://t.co/FJTxbIycDT

But how cool is it that children can now see so much diversity in the Barbie doll aisle?! I would have loved that when I was a young girl.

And of course, there were some critiques:
@AndreaDuke15 It’s a start! Wish the tall was less busty - but it was never going to look like me :) Is there a wheelchair Barbie I wonder?

C'mon, Barbie is 57 years old... how about a truly 57 year-old Barbie??? https://t.co/915Vh6Ckcj

Now, every woman can accurately say, "I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world."
