Two Black Lives Matter activists interrupted Hillary Clinton during a private fundraising event in Charleston, South Carolina, Wednesday night, in an effort to shine light on Clinton's civil rights inconsistencies.

Protestor Ashley Williams and a colleague each paid $500 to attend the private event, which had approximately 100 people in attendance. They strategically placed themselves at the front of the crowd and waited for Clinton to appear after several other speakers spoke about racism in America and Clinton's civil rights record.

During Clinton's speech, Williams stood to the side with a sign that quoted what she deemed to be inconsistencies in Clinton's record. Once the former secretary of state acknowledged her, Williams asked Clinton to apologize for supporting former President Bill Clinton's criminal justice reforms, which allegedly led to mass incarceration of African-Americans.

However, Williams and her colleague were quickly thrown out of the event by the Secret Service.

"I wanted to bring her to confront her own words," Williams told the Huffington Post after her protest. "We did this because we wanted to make sure that black people are paying attention to her record, and we want to know what Hillary we are getting."

Williams cited three specific policies that she says led to unequal treatment of African-Americans in the criminal justice system: the three-strike federal sentencing program, the elimination of rehabilitation programs for drug users and an emphasis on prison construction — all programs ushered in under President Clinton.

"Hillary Clinton has a pattern of throwing the black community under the bus when it serves her politically," Williams added. "She called our boys ‘super-predators’ in ’96, then she race-baited when running against Obama in ’08, now she’s a lifelong civil rights activist. I just want to know which Hillary is running for president, the one from ’96, ’08, or the new Hillary?"

This is not Clinton's first time being challenged by Black Lives Matter protesters on the campaign trail. In October 2015, activists protested a Clinton event in Atlanta, chanting and singing throughout her speech.
