Sen. Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) wrote on Twitter Wednesday that he had no doubt Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) would ultimately cave and allow President Barack Obama to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court.
In the first of a pair of tweets, the liberal firebrand said that there were already signs Republicans had begun to back down.
Republicans are backing down so quickly that they’re already bargaining about what month they will fully cave and confirm Obama’s nominee.— Senator Harry Reid (@Senator Harry Reid)1458159253.0
Reid then issued his prediction.
No question in my mind that Sen. McConnell will cave, and President Obama will fill this vacancy this year. https://t.co/p2KBysDJTj— Senator Harry Reid (@Senator Harry Reid)1458159482.0
Obama on Wednesday nominated Judge Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by the death to Justice Antonin Scalia.
McConnell said Garland would not get a hearing and that a nominee would not be approved by the Senate until after the election.
