Watch How These Mexican Citizens Use Paper Mâché Trump Effigies to Celebrate Easter

Effigies depicting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump were burned in Mexico Saturday evening as part of the country's "burning of Judas" Easter celebrations.

Burning effigies is a traditional part of the Mexican Holy Week's celebrations, and for years many Mexican neighborhoods have annually burned effigies depicting Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus Christ to His death on the cross. Just before celebrating the Resurrection Day itself on Easter, many Mexicans enjoy burning the effigies, according to Sky News. Some anthropologists have also stated that the practice serves as a symbolic reminder to draw people together and unify them over a common enemy, Reuters noted.

But this year, artist Felipe Linares, whose family has made effigies of Judas Iscariot for more than 50 years, decided to produce a model of the Republican presidential frontrunner to add to the festivities.

"Since he started his campaign and began talking about immigrants, Mexico, and Mexicans, I said 'I've got to get this guy,'" Linares told Sky News.

Trump has gained widespread media attention for his harsh comments pertaining to illegal Mexican immigrants and the need to strengthen the border and build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, and his comments have not gone unnoticed by the Mexicans, themselves.

In the neighborhood of La Merced, hundreds of Mexicans gathered to watch as the paper mâché Trump effigies burst into flames and exploded during the celebrations, shouting "Death!" as they watched, according to Reuters.
