The North Korean elite reportedly have been seeking out schoolgirls as young as 13 for sexual servitude in a group known as the Gippeumjo, or Pleasure Squad.
Soldiers often randomly select the girls they find suitable for the Gippeumjo and request that their family and medical histories are carefully examined, according to Australia's news.com.au. The girls allegedly undergo examinations to confirm whether or not they are still virgins before they serve the officials and military circles, as well. The approximately 2,000 members of the Gippeumjo reportedly were placed into three separate groups: one for sexual services, one for administering massages and one for singing and dancing — sometimes in a semi-nude state.
When the girls became members of the squad, their parents reportedly were given little to no details about their work or their whereabouts and were told only that their children and siblings would be working on "important government projects" and that they would be denied any further access to them.
News.com.au reports that these details were revealed by several of the girls who somehow managed to escape the country during the past decade and leave their lives as adult entertainers for the North Korean elite behind them.
