Conservative activist Lauren Souther claimed on Friday that Facebook deleted one of her posts because it didn’t “follow the Facebook Community Standards.”
Ironically, the post was about Facebook allegedly "censoring" one of her conservative friends.
“As I suspected my friend who res Disdain for Plebs has been banned on all his accounts that run the page AND Facebook deleted his post calling them out for censoring conservatives. This is utterly insane,” she wrote in the offending post.
She was later notified her post had been deleted and her account would be suspended for 30 days.
After her story went viral, Souther said she received an apology from Facebook and her post and account were restored. However, she expressed skepticism about the social network’s motivation for fixing the “error.”
In a meeting with conservative leaders last week, Zuckerberg reportedly vowed to keep Facebook an "open" platform that includes varying viewpoints. The meeting came after anonymous former news curators claimed the "Trending Topics" feed routinely excluded conservative news.
