Police robot accidentally detonates pipe bomb near New Jersey rail line: Report

A police robot used to remove and disarm bombs accidentally detonated one of the five pipe bombs found near a major rail artery in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Sunday night, Reuters reported.

No injuries were reported after the explosion. Reporters gathered to cover this latest bomb threat captured video of the explosion and posted it on social media.

According to Reuters, a pair "scavengers" were looking through a trash can near the train tracks and found a backpack with "wires and a pipe," which they reported to the police, Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said.

After confirming the presence of the pipe bombs, all rail traffic through the area was suspended or re-routed and federal authorities swarmed the scene.
