President-elect Donald Trump attended a meeting with reporters and editors at The New York Times on Tuesday. He had previously scheduled, then cancelled, then rescheduled the meeting again, which was held in New York.
New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman tweeted updates of the meeting, specifically Trump's comments regarding the electoral college. Though the votes are still being counted, Trump is behind in the popular vote by a significant margin so far, and is expected to lose that vote while still winning the electoral college.
Haberman reported:
"We had a great victory," Trump says. "I'll see every once in awhile someone says, 'Well, the popular vote.'"

"I'd rather do the popular vote," Trump says. "I think we'd do as well or better." Says he was "never a fan of the electoral college."

Adds: "Until now." Also says Electoral College "gets you out to" see states you wouldn't otherwise.

Without EC "You wouldn't leave New York," Trump says.

Back in 2012, Trump was an outspoken critic of the electoral college, tweeting:
The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy.

After his win in November 2016, Trump decided he had a change of heart on the matter, tweeting out:
The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!
