Prominent liberal Harvard Law professor tears into Obama for abandoning Israel

Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz is no fan of President Barack Obama's foreign policy, especially when it comes to the state of Israel.

"[History will see President Obama] as one of the worst foreign policy presidents ever," Dershowitz charged on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" Monday. "He called me into the Oval Office before the inauguration -- he said he wanted my support, and he told me he would always have Israel's back."

"I didn't realize what he meant: That he would have Israel's back so he could stab them in the back," he added.

The professor's bold remarks follow a lot of coverage surrounding the Jewish state due to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, a provision that demands Israel halt construction in land that Palestinians claim as their own. The resolution argues the UN spends "more than half its time and energy and resources and bureaucracy trying to attack the only Jewish state on the planet, a tiny little spec, while genocide, mayhem, murder and terrorism is going on all over the world.

Ron Dermer, Israel's ambassador to the U.S., said Monday he will share with President-elect Donald Trump "clear evidence" that the Obama White House was behind the UN's condemnation of Israel's settlements.

Dershowitz strongly condemned the U.S.'s abstention from the resolution vote:

What he did was so nasty, he pulled a bait and switch. He told the American public this is all about the settlements deep in the West Bank. And yet, he allowed he representative to the U.N. to abstain — which is really a vote for a resolution that says the Jews can't pray at the Western Wall, Jews can't live in the Jewish Quarter [of Jerusalem] where they have lived for thousands of years. And he's going to say, 'Whoops! I didn't mean that!' Well read the resolution! You're a lawyer, you went to Harvard Law School.

Dershowitz is one of the most prominent liberal legal minds in the country, having represented numerous celebrity clients, including Mike Tyson and Patty Hearst. He also was an appellate advisor for O.J. Simpson's star-studded legal team in Simpson's double-murder trial in 1995. He has also published numerous books and articles on liberal political theory.

According to the Harvard professor, who has written extensively about Israel-U.S. relations, achieving peace between Palestine and Israel will now be "much more difficult to achieve" because "the Palestinians will now say, 'We can get a state through the UN.'"

Interestingly, Dershowitz was "aroused" by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who espoused policy views almost identical t0 Obama's when it came to Israel, and even offered to help her with debate prep against then-GOP candidate Donald Trump.
