U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have arrested a man for allegedly trying to smuggle four people across the U.S.-Mexico border, according to CNN.

Agents said the man attempted to conceal the individuals in the trunk of his car.

When agents at the San Ysidro border crossing opened the trunk of the car during an inspection Tuesday, they said they discovered three women and one man inside. CNN reports that the individuals in the trunk are all Chinese nationals.

In a statement, Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego, said, “Concealing persons in vehicles is dangerous and could have severe consequences.”

“San Ysidro CBP officers stopped a violation of our immigration law and were able to resolve the incident safely,” Flores said.

The driver will face federal charges related to the incident. He was later transported to Metropolitan Correctional Center to await arraignment.

Customs and Border Protection says the driver, a 24-year-old male U.S. citizen, will face federal charges in relation to the incident.
