Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel took his political message from his monologues to his Twitter account, and was immediately struck with blowback from detractors of his political agenda.
Kimmel posted a message with a link to a donation page for the victims of the Las Vegas massacre:
"Dear crazies: it is fascinating that 500 innocent people get shot and your anger is directed at me. Think about that," he tweeted.
This isn't the first time he's accosted his gun advocate critics — in a follow up monologue to his screed about gun control, he decried the "nuts" who disagreed with him.
He also snapped a picture flipping his middle finger to a street artist who mocked his political monologues in a guerrilla art campaign on the streets of Los Angeles.
As is often the case with Twitter, he got immediate and brutal blowback:
Yes, it must be noted that he got a lot of support for his sentiment as well — the "crazies" tweet received more than 17,000 retweets and 67,000 likes at the time of publishing.
Gun advocates are as passionate about the Second Amendment as gun control advocates are in the belief that limiting guns will save lives. There have been irresponsible actors on both sides of the issue that only worsen the tone of the debate and the rhetoric without honestly discussing the issue. Kimmel has only exacerbated the problem by making an appeal to emotion with few facts to back up the policies he advocates.
