Rob Lowe explains why the 'Roseanne' show revival was so popular - in one tweet

Hollywood star Rob Lowe congratulated Roseanne Barr on the explosive success of the revival of her hit show, and then explained in one tweet why it was so successful.

Here's what he said

"The secret to [Roseanne Barr's] massive ratings is that it celebrates people with huge political differences who are able to laugh and love together as they passionately disagree."

Lowe's observation was in contrast with some who were characterizing the show as simply pro-Trump, including President Trump himself, who appeared to take credit for the high ratings before an audience in Ohio.

"Exactly," responded Mark Hemingway of the Weekly Standard. "The issue isn't that the show caters to conservatives. It just gives them a seat at the table rather than pretending half of America is backwards or doesn't exist."

Lowe retweeted a response to his observation with a quote incorrectly attributed to Aristotle. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

Lowe had earlier tweeted in response to the report that more than 18 million people had tuned in to the show - an astounding viewership.

Later the measure of the viewing audience was revised when "time-shifted" viewers were added, and topped 25 million. The show also garnered an incredible share of a key demographic among viewers.
