Trump trolls Nancy Pelosi, pleas for Democrats to continue supporting her in mock endorsement

President Donald Trump on Friday urged Democrats to continue supporting House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — but not for reasons you may think.

What did Trump say?

Trump pleaded Democrats to "not distance" themselves from the longtime Democratic leader so that she has the opportunity to "take down" the Democratic Party for the "4th time."

"Democrats, please do not distance yourselves from Nancy Pelosi. She is a wonderful person whose ideas & policies may be bad, but who should definitely be given a 4th chance. She is trying very hard & has every right to take down the Democrat Party if she has veered too far left!" Trump tweeted.

Of course, Trump was not actually advocating for Pelosi with the tweet. Instead, it was meant to troll Pelosi with the implication that if Democrats continue to support her, Republicans will retain control of Congress.

Trump's tweet came after a new poll showed that Democrats nationwide are becoming increasingly wary of Pelosi. The poll found that three-quarters of Americans believe Pelosi should be replaced, including half of Democrats.

Meanwhile, Democratic candidates running for Congress are turning their backs on Pelosi in growing numbers.

A Washington Post report found that 27 Democratic congressional candidates will not commit to supporting Pelosi to become Speaker if Democrats retake control of the House. Similarly, NBC News found that 50 Democratic candidates and incumbents would not support Pelosi.
