Security clearances for Hillary Clinton and staffers are now revoked - but for an odd reason

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) released a letter Friday that revealed Hillary Clinton had her security clearance revoked along with 5 of her staffers - but for a very odd reason.

According to the letter from Grassley, Clinton herself asked that the security clearances be revoked.

"At her request, former Secretary Clinton's security clearance was administratively withdrawn on August 30, 2018," read the letter.

"As we previously informed the committee, the individuals had been granted access to classified information through a request made by Secretary Clinton designating them as researches," the letter to Grassley explained.

Critics of the former secretary of state have demanded that her security clearance be revoked on the basis that she defied official rules and regulations on security when she kept her own private email server.

The identity of the staffers included in the clearance revocation were redacted, except for that of Cheryl Mills, Clinton's top aide.

Byron York of the Washington Examiner said the revocation gave Clinton cover to say it wasn't done in a disciplinary action, but also said it will raise questions as to what happened behind the scenes.

"Now I think the idea that 'at her request it was ended' gives her a way of saying look this wasn't a disciplinary action, I no longer used it, it's not something that is important to me anymore," he said on Fox News.

"But given that the administration has already done this with John Brennan, the former CIA director, who really bashes the president at every opportunity these days," York continued, "I think people are gonna want to look at this and say what exactly what went on behind this withdrawal, the clearance."
