CNN's Jeffrey Toobin zeroes in on one sentence in Mueller filing — it's about Russia

CNN is very excited about the filings Friday

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said that among the most important findings in the filing by special counsel Robert Mueller on Friday was one having to do with President Donald Trump's contacts with Russia.

"What is really significant here, I think," Toobin opined, "is that Cohen told Mueller's office about more contacts between Trump's orbit, and it appears Trump himself and Russia."

"That's why we're here," he added. "That's why we care about Michael Cohen, that's why we care about Robert Mueller."

"Because of his effort to determine whether Russia participated in a conspiracy to effect the outcome of this election with one of the candidates in the election," he explained.

"This is enormously significant"

Wolf Blitzer summed up his comment by asking if Trump and his lawyers should be "very nervous."

"He should be unhappy about that," Toobin agreed, and continued by quoting directly from Mueller's filing.

"The defendant admitted that his account of an earlier meeting was false," Toobin quoted from the filing, "and that he had in fact conferred with individual one, that's Donald Trump, about contacting the Russian government, before reaching out to gauge Russians' interest in such a meeting."

"Like, Donald Trump is talking to Michael Cohen about reaching out to the Russian government?" asked Toobin. "I think that's pretty significant."

"Now, Donald Trump may deny that this conversation took place, I expect he will," Toobin speculated, "but if there's corroboration of this, this is enormously significant."

Despite some of the claims in the filing by Mueller in his investigation into Russian election interference and alleged collusion with the Trump campaign, and federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, President Trump proclaimed that he was exonerated.

"Totally clears the President," he tweeted. "Thank you!"
