Poll finds that Democrat voters are becoming less moderate, 75% of Americans say the nation is on the wrong track

A new poll found that Democrat votes have become more progressive since 2020 despite predictions that the 2022 midterm elections will be devastating for the left side of the partisan aisle.

The NBC poll asked Democrat voters if they preferred a candidate to propose large-scale policies despite them being harder to pass and their higher costs, or if they preferred candidates with smaller scale policies that are easier to pass and cost less.

The new poll found 63% of voters preferred more extreme candidates to 33% who preferred more moderate candidates.

That is a big change from 53% who said they preferred extreme candidates in Feb. 2020, to 41% who preferred more moderate candidates.

The new poll showed a net preference for extreme candidates by 30%, while the older poll showed only a 12% net difference.

And the poll had more bad news for Democrats.

A whopping 74% said that the country is on the wrong track, while only 16% said the country is on the right track. President Joe Biden's performance numbers have also hit a new low with only 39% saying they approve while 56% say they disapprove.

The poll also found that 55% of Republicans wanted former President Donald Trump to continue to lead the party, while 33% said it was time to move on from his leadership. Despite preferring his leadership, 58% of Republicans said they consider themselves supporters of the party while 34% said they consider themselves supporters of Trump.

The poll numbers will be another feather in the cap of those participating in a debate about whether the right has turned more to the far right than the left has turned to the far left.

One small consolation for Democrats in the poll was the finding that more Americans support abortion rights and oppose the overturn of Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 pro-abortion decision.
