LGBT group funds ‘wide spectrum’ of woke projects at 71 schools across the US, Canada: ‘Gender-affirming closet,’ ‘inclusive curriculum,’ and ‘queer prom’

An LGBT activist group recently announced that it awarded thousands of dollars this year to many public and charter schools across the United States and Canada to “support and uplift LGBTQ+ identity,” the Daily Caller News Foundation reported.

A press release published by the nonprofit “It Gets Better Project” announced that it gave grants of up to $10,000 each to 71 schools in the U.S. and Canada, totaling $625,000. The organization noted that its “50 States, 50 Grants, 5,000 Voices” program is in its second year.

The announcement revealed that the funding supported “a wide spectrum of projects based on the specific needs and priorities of each individual school.”

For instance, Magic City Acceptance Academy in Birmingham, Alabama, received a grant from the It Gets Better Project to fund a “Pride Garden.” The school claims that “over 50%” of its students identify as LGBTQ+.

Impact Academy of Arts and Technology in Hayward, California, will use the fund to “work with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to host a back-to-school shopping day for trans and nonbinary students, create a gender-affirming wardrobe, and host a LGBTQ+ community day.”

Two unnamed schools — one in Arvada, Colorado, and the other in British Columbia, Canada — plan to host a “queer prom” for students.

E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, will “bolster the school [gender-sexuality alliance] through creating a safe room, hosting leadership workshops, and adding LGBTQ+ books to the library.”

Several schools plan to use the grants to purchase LGBT-themed literature to add to school libraries, support “staff training around LGBTQ+ issues,” and create “gender-affirming” closets or changing rooms.

Brian Wenke, executive director of the It Gets Better Project, stated, “Amid ongoing efforts to silence or stigmatize discussion about LGBTQ+ identity in the classroom, it’s more important than ever to ensure that LGBTQ+ students feel that they are welcomed, accepted and able to be their full selves at school.”

“Through the 50 States, 50 Grants, 5000 Voices program, we are giving students, teachers and administrators the resources they have determined they need to help make their schools more LGBTQ+ inclusive and supportive,” Wenke continued. “We’re so excited to watch these projects flourish and see the ways that schools and entire communities will benefit from these efforts to celebrate and empower their LGBTQ+ students.”

Erika Sanzi, director of operations at Parents Defending Education, told the DCNF, “The group is funding programs and curricula that are inappropriate for children and certainly inappropriate for classrooms in public schools.”

“The fact that they funded a program for a public school to work with the anti-Catholic organization Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence shows that the group is more than willing to work with those who practice bigotry against Americans who think and believe differently from them,” Sanzi added.

The It Gets Better Project, Magic City Acceptance Academy, Impact Academy of Arts and Technology, and E.C. Glass High School did not respond to a request for comment, the DCNF reported.
