'Mandatory' CRT training for all New York City employees pushes 'equity lens,' 'safe spaces'

New York City required all of its employees to undergo a radical "mandatory" critical race theory training that promoted an "equity lens," "antiracism," and "safe spaces," Fox News Digital reported.

According to a city email obtained by Fox News Digital, "The training provides all NYC employees with a framework to understand … the importance of racial equity … in the workplace."

The training materials stated that while race has "no genetic or scientific basis," it has a "real impact on people's lives." It argued that race is a social construct invented to "justify systems of power, privilege, exclusion and oppression."

The mandatory training sought to teach city employees that there are multiple types of racism, including "individual," "institutional," and "structural."

"Institutional racism: policies, practices, patterns and structures within public and private institutions that impose oppressive or otherwise negative conditions on identifiable groups on the basis of race or ethnicity," the training stated.

"Structural racism/Systematic racism: Racism that occurs across multiple institutions and is integrated into politics, culture and other aspects of life. Creating a system that negatively impacts communities of color compared to White communities," it continued.

A source familiar with the training told Fox News Digital that the source is concerned that the city aims to apply an "equity lens" to hiring practices.

"Where they were discussing equity, how we have to look at people through a particular lens, that contradicted … [the idea that] we should treat everybody equally," the source said.

"I do not agree with what they want us to do as city employees," the source added. "The [racial equity training] leads me to believe that they want the contracts with the city and the hiring from the city being looked at through this lens. And that's what I think is really unfair. It goes against their [stated claims] … that everybody should be treated equally."

The training encouraged employees to embrace an "equity lens" by incorporating "antiracism training" and "safe spaces" into the workplace.

"To foster equity. Embrace the idea that a problem may exist. Become aware of systematic racism and the possible presence of racial inequity in your workplace," the training said. "Understand the dominant cultural patterns of your workplace and whether they are hurting or helping your diversity, equity and inclusion goals."

It also urged employees to be aware of "unconscious bias," which "occurs when our brains make quick judgments and assess people and situations without us consciously knowing or realizing it."

All New York City employees must complete the "racial equity" training by March 6.

The city did not reply to a request for comment, Fox News Digital reported.
