'You're a black man approaching a white woman': Neighbor of former NFL star Terrell Owens faces charges after racial confrontation

A woman living in the same Florida neighborhood as former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens now faces charges after police say they could not corroborate allegations she made against Owens following a racially charged confrontation a few months ago.

On the evening of August 3, Caitlin Davis, a 38-year-old white woman, called the cops after she claimed that Owens, 48, sped around the neighborhood in his car, blew a stop sign, and nearly ran her over on her bicycle.

After police arrived on the scene, Davis and Owens had the following exchange:

Davis: "But you didn't have to get out of your f***ing car!"

Owens: "You didn't have to talk to me that way, either."

Davis: "You're a black man approaching a white woman!"

It is unclear what Davis meant by that remark.

Owens unequivocally denied all of the accusations Davis made against him, claiming that he had only driven a short distance to the mailbox and therefore could not have gone very fast.

He also filmed Davis during her interactions with police. At one point during their conversation, Davis broke down in tears and accused Owens of threatening and harassing her.

"He literally came after me," Davis alleged.

In the video, Owens repeatedly refers to Davis as "Karen," a slang term for a meddlesome or melodramatic white woman. He also makes reference to Emmett Till, the black teenager who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman.

After the incident, police conducted further investigations and determined that they could not corroborate Davis' version of events. Court documents now say that Davis "knowingly" gave "false information to a law enforcement officer" regarding her confrontation with Owens. She has since been charged with a second-degree misdemeanor for false reports. If convicted, she could face jail time. She is scheduled to appear in court on December 6.

Owens spent eight of his 15 NFL seasons in San Francisco. However, he also made stops in Dallas, Buffalo, and Cincinnati and had two tumultuous seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He tried to make an NFL comeback in 2012 with the Seattle Seahawks, but he never appeared in a game. He is currently playing for the Knights of Degen of the Fan Controlled Football league.

Owens recently appeared on Chris Cuomo's new show to discuss his run-in with Davis.

"This is something we as black people go through on an everyday basis," Owens told Cuomo. "Thankfully, now things are being exposed, thanks to mobile devices and social media."

"If the roles were reversed, they would be going to the fullest extent of the law to charge me," Owens added. "It doesn’t matter what type of neighborhood you’re in. This is the reality of the life of a black American."
