Remember Pvt. Bradley Manning, who now goes by Chelsea? On Wednesday’s “Pat & Stu,” the guys talked about the latest update: Manning is leaving prison a little early thanks to some help from former President Barack Obama. And yes, taxpayer money has been covering Manning’s transgender transition.
Obama commuted Manning’s sentence in the final days of his presidency. Manning had been sentenced to 35 years in prison after being convicted of violations of the Espionage Act but is being released after serving just short of seven years of the sentence. Formerly an intelligence analyst in Iraq, Manning leaked hundreds of thousands of classified documents to Julian Assange’s WikiLeaks website.
Manning, who was born male but identifies as a woman and started transitioning in prison, will remain technically an active duty soldier who receives benefits covering medical care but won’t be paid.
“Why are we carving this out for this person?” Stu Burguiere asked of the odd arrangement.
He pointed out that Manning not only didn’t accomplish anything remarkable but also endangered our national security.
“This is a person who was arrested. This is a person who did bad things to the country,” Stu protested.
