Glenn: Clapper was conflating fact and theory on Russia and Trump, and here's why it's dangerous

“Our institutions are under assault,” former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday. In the interview, Clapper said the U.S. is being attacked from the outside by Russia and from within by President Donald Trump.

On Monday’s “The Glenn Beck Radio Program,” Glenn Beck warned against this conflation of fact and theory. We know that Russia hacked the Democratic National Committee and former Hillary Clinton campaign chair John Podesta’s email account to hurt the Clinton presidential campaign, but we don’t know that Trump was colluding with Russia, Glenn asserted.

Switching from facts to unsubstantiated claims in the same breath can be dangerous. “Eventually, people will believe the fabricated theory along with the actual truth if you continue to couple them,” Glenn said.

Liberals seem to have just now realized that Russia is a threat, but conservatives were warning against Russia and Vladimir Putin for years, Glenn pointed out. When people like Clapper undermine our leaders and spread misinformation, they are making America’s position that much more dangerous when the next war will likely be waged online and you will have a difficult time knowing what is true and what is false.

“This next war is going to be a cyber war,” Glenn noted.
