Black students at Harvard University have raised $27,000 to have their own black-only graduation ceremony on May 23. Today on "Pure Opelka," Mike Opelka lamented the first segregated graduation in Harvard's nearly 400 year history.
The students themselves proclaim that this is not segregation. Master's candidate Michael Huggins told The Root the students are excited to see themselves en mass, something they do not believe they enjoyed during their education.
The students will participate in the main graduation ceremony with all the other students in addition to their own special event. Mike imagined that if any other group had requested to be treated as a separate class of students, it would not have gone over well.
