Listen: DACA recipient shares his story -- 'You should really crackdown on the employer

A young man who has benefitted from the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program called into “Pat Gray Unleashed” to describe the attitudes and actions that have given immigrants like him a bad name.

Matt shared that he benefitted from immigration relief programs like DACA and the DREAM ACT when he arrived in the United States at just 3 years old, however, it wasn't until the age of 15 that Matt officially became a legal resident.

He grew up an all American kid, learned to speak the language fairly well, and said most of his friends are "country" as a result of him growing up in the horse capital of the world.

Matt highlighted several frustrations with the immigration system in the United States including the benefits many illegal aliens receive with stolen social security numbers.

"The American employers are the ones hiring them," said Matt. "If you really want it to change and you want illegals to stop working here, you should really crack down on the employer."

U.S. law states:

A person (including a group of persons, business, organization or local government) commits a federal felony when he:

  • assists an alien whom he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him to obtain employment,
  • encourages that alien to remain in the U.S., by referring him to an employer, by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or
  • knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.

Without official documentation, many migrant workers are left victimized by employers who pay too little or refuse to pay them at all.
