Wisconsin court convicts mother for profanity-laced tirade -- case evokes free speech debate
December 06, 2017
A mother's tirade over burnt popcorn led a Milwaukee County jury to convict her last Friday of child abuse, child neglect, disorderly conduct, and intentionally causing harm to a child. Ginger Breitzman berated her 14-year-old son for burning some popcorn while he was on the phone with a friend who overheard the outburst.
The conviction has many questioning whether the mother's civil rights were infringed upon. Breitzman also brought it to the court's attention that she had poor representation which led to her conviction.
