TRIGGERED: Dems, including Schumer, Obama, Clinton, voted for border fence — but Trump's wall is 'immoral'
January 08, 2019
'They were just placating the American people'
President Donald Trump will deliver his first Oval Office address Tuesday night to discuss funding for his long-promised U.S.-Mexico border wall and the ongoing partial government shutdown, which is now in its 18th day.
The president is also expected to address the possibility of declaring a national emergency, which would authorize funding for the border wall without approval from Congress.
But why are congressional Democrats so vehemently opposed to a border wall, even going so far as to call it "immoral"? President Barack Obama routinely advocated the use of physical barriers to make our southern border more secure during his administration. During the Bush administration, Democratic Sens. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), Barack Obama (Ill.), Hillary Clinton (N.Y.), and 23 others voted in favor of the Secure Fence Act in 2006, which passed in the Senate by a vote of 80-19.
However, when it comes to "Trump's wall," Democrats are so triggered by President Trump that they now oppose any kind of physical barrier that would make our southern border more secure.
"Congress, including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, signed into law a border wall." Glenn Beck said on Tuesday's radio program. "They had no intention of doing it. They were just placating the American people.
"Bill Clinton said he would fix that [the lack of border security]. Sen. Barack Obama said he would fix that. Hillary Clinton said she would fix that. George Bush said he would fix that. No one has fixed that," Glenn said. "No one is serious about it except the American people."
