A Pizza Hut manager is under fire for issuing this threat right before Hurricane Irma
September 13, 2017
A manager at a Pizza Hut location in Florida gave employees an ultimatum: You have just one day to flee the hurricane. The corporation has since stepped in to deal with the backlash.
The note from the manager at the Jacksonville, Florida location read:
"If evacuating, you will have a 24-hour period before storm 'grace period' to not be scheduled. You cannot evacuate Friday for a Tuesday storm event! Failure to show for these shifts, regardless of reason, will be considered a no call/no show and documentation will be issued."
Business Insider reported the story on Monday after the note went viral.
"We absolutely do not have a policy that dictates when team members can leave or return from a disaster, and the manager who posted this letter did not follow company guidelines," a Pizza Hut spokesperson said in a statement.
What is an appropriate disaster policy for your employees, where did this manager fail as a leader and who is ordering Pizza Hut during a hurricane? Doc Thompson and Kris Cruz discussed the story on Wednesday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson.”
