Early American artifacts shed light on the origins of our nation

On this episode of "The Vault," Glenn Beck and David Barton examine artifacts from early American pilgrims, which illuminate the theological persecution these brave pioneers were fleeing when they arrived in the New World. Parliamentary acts passed in the mid-17th century severely restricted religious expression in England and other European nations.

"So you don't preach unless Parliament tells you you can preach. And they'll tell you what churches you can preach in," David summarizes.

Glenn explores the political ramifications of a state-controlled church: "So this is why the king kept — I mean, you hold onto power. If power is coming from the church, and people are going to the church, and the church is telling them how to live their life, then they're all controlled by the king."
