Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, author of "Tough As They Come," joined Glenn in studio for a Veterans Day special in front of a live studio audience. To begin the program, Staff Sergeant Mills shared the story of the day he became a quadruple amputee following an encounter with an Afghan insurgent's IED. The harrowing details underscore the miraculous nature of his survival and recovery.
"They worked on me [for] fourteen hours, nine doctors and seven nurses. Two nurses for nine hours pumped air into my lungs," Mills recounts. "And over thirty blood transfusion. People were rushing basically just donating blood, and they were taking it and bringing it to me. And then they got me stable."
