In light of the tragic verdict involving the death of Kate Steinle, fighting sanctuary city protections for illegal immigrants is at the forefront for many Republicans and their constituents.

Sanctuary city policies are what allowed Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, an illegal immigrant who had already been deported five times, to remain in the country illegally. This policy is what led to the death of Steinle on San Francisco's Pier 14. Zarate, who should not have been in the country nor possessed a firearm, was later acquitted of her murder.

The death of Steinle has ignited a vicious debate on illegal immigration, but today, Pat reminded us of what Democrats once stood for.
