Watch: Study claims gin and tonic drinkers more likely to be psychopaths – here’s the evidence
January 03, 2018
What happened?
An Austrian study found that people who enjoy gin and tonics are more likely to have the dangerous traits of "Machiavellianism, psychoticism, and narcissism." Yikes.
On today’s show, Jeffy and Kal talked about this study's finding as well as some of the most iconic psychopaths depicted in movies.
How was the study conducted?
Innsbruck University researchers surveyed more than 900 participants, finding that people who like the bitter flavors in tonic water, dark chocolate and coffee are prone to be more emotional.
"Bitter taste experiences were shown to elicit harsher moral judgements and interpersonal hostility,” the study found.
The researchers quizzed people on a list of foods and beverages to see what flavors they enjoy, asking participants to rate each food or drink on a scale and fill out a personality questionnaire.
