After President Donald Trump announced Saturday his intention to release the treasure trove of documents related to the John F. Kennedy assassination known as the “JFK files,” Twitter went ablaze with jokes about…Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and his father.
Why Cruz and his father?
One of the more controversial claims Trump made or supported during last year’s Republican primary about a fellow GOP candidate was that Cruz’s father was somehow involved in JFK’s assassination.
Tabloid magazine National Enquirer published a story last year claiming that Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, had been photographed standing next to Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before Oswald assassinated Kennedy. Trump further exacerbated the conspiracy theory by suggesting Cruz’s father had connections to Oswald.
