Boy gets special surprise after sending $3 to President Trump

A generous young boy who wanted to help President Donald Trump afford his bills in the White House got a special surprise reward from a stranger.

On the campaign trail, President Donald Trump repeatedly pledged to take only a $1 salary during his time in office. But 9-year-old Eli’sha Davies, of East Tennessee, worried that the president wouldn’t be able to afford living in the White House, wrote to the president and sent him his allowance last January, WBIR-TV reports.

This week, Eli’sha received a letter from President Trump, returning the three dollar bills with a picture and an encouragement to use his allowance to help the community.

Eli’sha is a musician who likes to play the mandolin but doesn’t own one himself. He has been saving up to buy a mandolin, but his mom, Melissa, said he’s having trouble because he keeps giving away his money to people he thinks need it more.

"I remember a couple weeks ago or a month ago, I gave, we went to the mission house, my grandpa and me went to the mission house, and I gave $5," Eli'sha said.

Well, as the story of Eli’sha’s charitable letter to President Trump spread nationwide, one John Wildeman of Punta Gorda, Florida, found out about it on the local NBC affiliate Wednesday morning and decided to help him out.

Wildeman is the president of the Young Musicians Education Foundation Inc., a charity that helps child musicians afford lessons — as long as they keep their grades up. To reward Eli’sha’s generosity, the foundation bought a mandolin for him.

"$3 is a lot of money to a little kid, most kids," Wildeman said. "For him to sacrifice that and send that money to someone who he thought really needed it, that meant an awful lot to me."

"I'm like a kid at Christmas when I know we're giving a child an instrument like this," he added. "It's just a thrill for me to be able to do it."

The local Guitar Center in West Knoxville also gave Elisha picks, strings, a tuner, and a chord chart for help in his practicing. Eli’sha is thrilled.

"I'd like to say that he was really generous to do that for me," Eli'sha said. He added that he has a lot of practicing to do while he decides what to do next with his allowance.

"Well, I just want to be a blessing to everyone," he said.
