Brian Stelter’s amnesia: He can’t recall questioning Trump’s mental health

Zero self-awareness …

Stelter’s amnesia … Before Donald Trump’s doctor gave him a clean bill of health, you may remember that CNN and in particular media critic/cheerleader Brian Stelter frequently called into question Donald Trump’s “mental fitness” to be president. That’s why it was completely surprising when Stelter tweeted:

The images attached were of Stelter searching for him using the words “mentally ill” and “25th amendment” and coming up blank. That’s because Stelter used the word “fitness” over and over again. Not “mentally ill.” For example:

  • January 2, 2018 email: “We're once again confronted by questions about the president's fitness. Questions about his health. It's uncomfortable. But it is incumbent on journalists to ask these questions and report out the answers...”
  • January 3, 2018 email: “If you read last night's newsletter, you know I've been focused on the Q's about the president's fitness. I was struck by the way David Gergen framed it on ‘Erin Burnett OutFront’ Wednesday night. He said ‘if Donald Trump were the head of any other major institution in this country, he would be gone by now.’ Later in the hour, Gergen said other details from Wolff's book — about Trump's paranoia, etc — reinforce questions about whether he's fit for office.”
  • January 3, 2018 email: “I think NBC's Peter Alexander deserves credit for bringing this up at Wednesday's briefing. He asked: ‘Should Americans be concerned about the President’s mental fitness,’ given ‘that he appears to be speaking so lightly about threats regarding a nuclear button?’ Sarah Sanders did not say ‘no, Americans should not be concerned.’ Instead, she said we should all be ‘concerned about the mental fitness of the leader of North Korea...’”
  • August 23, 2017: Stelter published a couple of points from Brian Lowry, who said, “2) This performance won't do anything to quell speculation about the President's mental fitness and competency.”

I could go on, and on, and on. Those are just a few of the many times that Stelter questioned the “mental fitness” of Donald Trump to be president. Maybe Stelter has some amnesia.

Also Stelter … After what CRTV host Steve Deace termed “the worst weekend in American media,” Ben Domenech wrote at The Federalist: “Dear America: Your news media absolutely hates you.” Sometimes truth hurts. Domenech wrote about how even after being called out, the media continued to prop up North Korea’s propaganda-fueled weekend. Well, that was just too much for Stelter, who tweeted:

Domenech used to work for the Washington Post. I’m sure he knows a lot of journalists. Oh, and he’s married to Meghan McCain, who works on the ABC News show “The View.” Yes, the media was absolutely that far out of line this past weekend.
