Before President Trump has even nominated a successor to retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, Senator Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is pre-emptively bashing a judge from Trump’s short list on Twitter.
Monday, Schumer posted a thread of tweets detailing his aversion to Judge Amy Coney Barrett as a potential nominee for Kennedy’s seat. Barrett was already derided by Dianne Feinstein during a 2017 confirmation hearing for her Catholic faith.
President Trump says he will choose his court nominee on Monday, July 9.
Schumer faulted Barrett for her pro-life views on Roe v. Wade, for disagreeing with the court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act, and for her fight against the Obama administration for compelling employers to purchase health insurance contracts promoting contraception.
Amy Coney Barrett is a judge on the Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit & on @realDonaldTrump’s pre-approved list… https://t.co/RZFz7N5cNW— Chuck Schumer (@Chuck Schumer)1530545606.0
He concluded the thread by saying Barrett would be “an activist judge” on the court.
With Chuck Schumer so vocally against Barrett when she hasn’t even been nominated, this may be her greatest conservative endorsement yet.
