Responding to report of a rocket attack directed at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, President Trump made it clear that the United States will not back down from Iranian aggression.

“If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!” the president tweeted over the weekend. Since his statement, there have been no additional rocket attacks near the embassy location.

The U.S. military continues to conduct exercises in the Persian Gulf, following a reported increased terrorist threat originating in Iran.

US warship challenges China’s territorial claims in Pacific

The U.S. military announced that an American warship purposely sailed into the Scarborough Shoal area of the South China Sea on Sunday, specifically to challenge China’s contested territorial claims there.

Reuters reports:

“The operation was the latest attempt to counter what Washington sees as Beijing’s efforts to limit freedom of navigation in the strategic waters, where Chinese, Japanese and some Southeast Asian navies operate.

China claims almost all of the strategic South China Sea and frequently lambastes the United States and its allies over naval operations near Chinese-occupied islands.

Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam have competing claims in the region.”
