Monday on "Fox & Friends," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said those who signed on to the FISA warrant to spy on Trump campaign associate Carter Page need to be asked "serious questions" about why the warrant misled the FISA court.
Judicial Watch, a legal watchdog group, was one of several organizations to secure the release of the 412-page FISA court application with a Freedom of Information Act request. The documents contain classified information and are heavily redacted. Fitton criticized the Department of Justice for defensively classifying sensitive or embarrassing information.
"It wasn't because they were protecting national security secrets. It was to cover up misconduct by the Justice Department and the FBI in misleading the courts by using this dossier in a dishonest way to gain a warrant to target the Trump team," Fitton said.
He described the dossier as a "self-licking ice cream cone," explaining the circular logic plaguing the warrant application.
"This is a Clinton campaign document that was presented to the court as if it weren't, and then they used reports about the Clinton campaign document and leak operation to further justify asking for a warrant to target the Trump team," Fitton said.
"Anyone who signed on to this needs to be asked questions about why they signed on to it, what they knew, and when," Fitton added, including Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
LevinTV host Mark Levin has called on Congress to hold accountable the officials responsible for submitting this FISA warrant application and the judges responsible for approving it. On Sunday, Fox News' Catherine Herridge reported that Republican members of the House Intelligence Committee chaired by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., have requested that President Trump declassify the entire FISA court document. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said Sunday he would like to question former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan, both signatories on the FISA application.
