PP hits keep coming. Will Republicans STILL cave on defunding it?

PP hits keep coming. Will Republicans STILL cave on defunding it?

The same Planned Parenthood executive who joked about buying a high-end sports car with the money garnered from selling infant body parts is back. In a new video released Wednesday by the Center for Medical Progress, she is seen haggling over the price in her nefarious dealings.

The Washington Times’ Bradford Richardson reports that the new video shows Dr. Mary Gatter telling an undercover videographer that $50 was far too small a sum to pay for a portion of an unborn child’s body, saying such a sum was “on the low end.”

“$50 was like 12 years ago,” she says.

In a conversation that sounds more at home at a slave market than a professional conference in the 21st century, the video also shows Gatter — the president of Planned Parenthood’s medical directors’ council — discussing the volume of fetal tissue to be sold, and what the preferred age of the children the prospective buyer prefers.

“What kind of volume do you need and what gestational ages?” she asks.

“You know, you have to pay a little money to use the space,” Gatter says, when asked for a generic price quote. “Most people now seem to be [setting the price] per specimen.”

The exchange occurred at a Planned Parenthood conference evening reception, where the citizen-journalist filming was introduced to Gatter by Planned Parenthood executive Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the press release states. Nucatola appeared in the initial CMP video where she discussed the group’s fetal tissue dealings while munching on salad and sipping wine at an upscale restaurant for lunch.

This latest video release comes in the midst of government shutdown fears. One such high-profile item in the budget debate is Planned Parenthood funding, a provision which survived previous deals despite the initial release of CMP videos in the summer of 2015 and a GOP control of both houses of the legislative branch.

Meanwhile, Republicans appear poised to once again concede defeat on the issue. Yes, Congress did indeed pass a bill which undid President Obama’s parting gift to Planned Parenthood – an executive order taking back the prohibition of state-level defund efforts – but the fate of federal funds still hangs in the balance.

And things are still looking good for the abortion giant, as the government funding deadline approaches Friday. As CNS News’ Terence P. Jeffrey points out, “There is currently no talk that [the budget bill] will include language to prohibit funding of Planned Parenthood” despite a laundry list of GOP assurances to the contrary. And while the deal going into this week might have traded abortion funding for a border wall, Republicans now appear to be losers on both fronts.

The GOP appears on the cusp of yet again failing to follow through on one of their most long-standing, high-profile and easily winnable issues.

If Republican leadership manages to bungle and apologize its way to continuing the flow of tax dollars to the nation’s largest abortion provider despite the evidence put forward in these videos, one wonders what it would take for them to actually go through with it.
