Could a Senate impeachment trial really start next week?

The following is an excerpt from Blaze Media’s Capitol Hill Brief email newsletter:

The Senate is out today, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is going to be quiet. Everyone’s still trying to figure out when Nancy Pelosi is going to stop stalling the impeachment process and send the House’s impeachment articles over to the Senate so a trial can start.

At a press conference on Thursday, Pelosi said that she would send the articles to the Senate “when I’m ready,” which “will probably be soon” but that she wants more details on the proposed Senate trial rules first. The same day, Mitch McConnell later told senators that he expects to receive the articles as soon as Friday, which would set up a trial for next week. When asked about the McConnell news, Pelosi stood by what she said earlier.

Just for reference, today marks 23 days since the House approved the impeachment articles back in December.
