The Left's Unfair Standard for the Tea Party

Most citizens can understand that it’s unfair to brand entire groups based on the actions of a few.

You may have heard that one of the challengers to Republican Sen. John Cornyn in the Texas Primary, Chris Mapp, said ranchers should be allowed to shoot “wetbacks” who illegally cross the border on to their land.

It didn’t take the Tea Party haters long to allege that Mapp was a perfect representation of the Tea Party. They made the wild claim even though Chris Mapp boasts NO endorsements from any Tea Party group on his web site.

Anyone with half a brain knows the statement is clearly racist and out of bounds. But does the Tea Party deserve credit for this idiotic and ignorant statement? According to the extremist left, the Tea Party is to be held responsible for all political candidates who vocally oppose progressive Democrats or who are not part of the GOP establishment? Let’s assume they are right. Let’s apply this ridiculous and impossible standard to everyone.

In December 2011, New Mexico State Representative and Majority House Whip Sheryl Williams Stapleton, a Democrat, openly accused another house member of “carrying the Mexican’s water.”

The “Mexican” to which she was referring was the current Republican Gov. Susana Martinez. It bears pointing out that Gov. Martinez is a Latina. She is also a U.S. citizen. I know left-wingers buy into this idea that we Latinos all look alike. They also are under the delusion that all of us came here illegally or share commonalities, other than our common humanity, with those who have entered the U.S. illegally. The Democrat was using the term “Mexican” as a pejorative to attack a Latina. Thus, by the liberal standard, all Democrats are intolerant toward Hispanics.

In June 2013, state Representative Ryan Winkler, a Democrat, criticized a Supreme Court decision on the Voting Rights Act by calling Justice Clarence Thomas “Uncle Thomas.”

The courageous Winkler made the racial slur on his Twitter account. That tweet was quickly deleted. Mr. Winkler represents some upper middle class suburbs west-southwest of Minneapolis. He was unhappy with the high court declaring the 1965 Civil Rights Act outdated. The Democrat used a hateful, racist comment towards a black Supreme Court justice. Thus, by the liberal standard, all Democrats are racists toward blacks.

Also in June 2013, Congressman Bobby Rush, a black Democrat, launched a racist attack on Sen. Mark Kirk, a white Republican.

Kirk has been urging law enforcement agencies to destroy Chicago's biggest gang by arresting 18,000 of its members. Seeing some problems with this, Rush told the Chicago Sun Times that Kirk’s idea was, "a sensational, headline-grabbing, empty, simplistic, unworkable approach."

If Rush had stopped there, he’d have been fine. But he didn’t. Rush went on to say that Kirk's proposal was "an upper-middle-class, elitist white boy solution to a problem he knows nothing about." The racist “white boy” comment drew immediate attention and Rush quickly tempered his racist statement.

The press allows Democrats to revise their hate, with no consequence. The GOP gets no such quarter. In this case, the Democrat used a racist comment toward a white senator. Thus, by the liberal standard, all Democrats are racist toward whites.

We all know that extremist liberals are nuts. We know that they assign impossible standards to those with whom they politically disagree and excuse those with whom they are politically allied.

I have a long-held axiom that I’ve not seen debunked yet: “Politics trumps everything”…even race. That’s what we are seeing here. I’ll be plain.

Just as an idiot candidate for Senate—who makes a racist statement—does not reflect the Tea Party, racist comments by Democrats do not paint the entire Democrat party as racists. Most citizens can understand that it’s unfair to brand entire groups based on the actions of a few. Common-sense Americans can see through the left’s obvious double standard here. The mainstream press and extremist progressives, sadly, have never been accused of having much sense at all.
