Woman Cut In Half In Order to Remove Cancer

If only Humpty Dumpty could have had Janis Ollson's doctors.

Ollson, a 31-year-old Canadian, survived a surgery that forced doctors to cut her in half in order to remove a cancerous tumor in her pelvis. That meant removing her leg, lower spine, and half of her pelvis during a surgery that had never been done on a live human being.

After removing the tumor, which doctors at the Mayo Clinic said was the size of a calzone, successfully, all the king's horses and all the king's men put Janis Ollson back together again. However she now has one leg fused to her body and one prosthetic leg, along with a prosthetic pelvis -- all expected outcomes from the live-saving surgery.
